Restorative Yoga while Congested
I don’t know about you, but when i’m congested the only style of yoga that I want to practice is Restorative yoga. But laying on your back typically means you can’t breathe well while you’re sick, so it turns out to not be relaxing after all. This yoga sequence is my go-to during the Winter months, when i’m sure that at least one client is feeling a little stuffed up.
My tips for being congested; keep the head above the heart. I like to set up that reclined bolster, using two cork blocks for support. I use this set up for all poses when I am doing a sequence for sickness or congestion. You can use that second bolster for support in the other poses.
Sequence for a 60 minute practice (adjust time as necessary):
Reclined Butterfly Pose - 10 minutes
Side Laying Twist - 7 minutes per side
Reclined Deer Pose - 7 minutes per sided
Supported Child’s Pose - 10 minutes
Supported Savasana - 10 minutes
I hope you enjoy this sequence, let me know your thoughts!
Namaste,
Sophie
